Lucas Goly | The Afro-Surrealist
Lucas Goly, often known as Luca, is a Brooklyn-based, self-taught multidisciplinary artist who transitioned from a career as an Amtrak bridge engineer to a rising star in the contemporary art world in 2021. Drawing heavy inspiration from Basquiat and his own cultural heritage, his work spans Afro-Surrealism, abstract painting, and digital illustration, often utilizing bold acrylics and finger-painting techniques.
Goly has achieved significant commercial success, including a commission for Disney’s 25th Anniversary of The Lion King on Broadway and collaborations with major figures like Kanye West and Offset. As a resident artist for the Federal Reserve in NYC, his influence extends beyond the canvas into interior design, tattooing, and global exhibitions from Paris to Art Basel Miami.

The Partnership
Lucas Goly’s collaboration with Prolific Wone for the "GVD KNG" single cover is a masterclass in Afro-Surrealism and visual storytelling. Released as part of the "Spirit Over Tangibles" micro-film series, the artwork features Goly’s signature use of distorted portraiture and vibrant gold leaf, symbolizing the divine "God King" within. This partnership bridges the gap between fine art and independent music, utilizing surrealist techniques to explore themes of self-actualization and spiritual resilience.
Beyond the digital release, this collaboration evolved into a high-end merchandise collection, including the "GVD KNG BY: Lucas Goly" apparel line. By translating the single's visual identity into wearable art, Goly and Prolific Wone created a multi-sensory experience that connects the Brooklyn art scene with the music industry. The project highlights Goly’s ability to "world-build" for recording artists, solidifying his reputation as a premier New York contemporary artist and designer.
